A big part of my life ever since we adopted is learning how to do AA hair. It's been lots of work but so much fun too! I had been studying anything I could about it on line before the kids came home, but it still didn't prepare me for taking out the girls' cornrows that they came home in and looking at that curly puff of hair and going.... "now what."
But I found a great place too learn. It's a yahoo group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/adoptionhair_skincare/ I just started asking question and got all the feed back I needed. It's a great place to learn and share. They are a very active group!
I have so much fun styling the girls' hair. I find myself spending math time dreaming up new hair styles. Grace and Mercy enjoy the different things I do too. They especially love when I put beads and snaps in their hair. You can use any pony beads as long as the holes are big enough for the braid or twist. (Snaps are a small clothing snap-like hair accessory that has a hing on one side and "snaps" shut over a small section of hair. It's a great way to end braids and twists and hold beads on the hair.) Some of the fun things I get for the girls hair I order from Snapaholics. http://snapaholics.com This is Steph's site. She sells all different kinds of hair accessories for AA hair, including some moisturizing hair care products.
It's a fun world of hair. Too often the thing we are seeing is AA hair getting chemicals slapped on to make it strait. What fun girls are missing! In the photo gallery section of my site there's a album with photos of the girls' hair and some styles of I've done on them.
